Love's A Mystery by Stewart Morrison

CASE STUDIES - ALBUM PROJECT

Songs by Stewart Morrison

In 2012 Stewart approached me to record an album of his songs. He had previously recorded demo version of some of the material with producer and musician Stevie Hook in Shetland. He recorded from 1985 to around 2006 at Stevie's studio in Lerwick.
After moving back to his home town of Edinburgh we met up at the Offbeat studios for an initial discussion and he played me the demos. We decided to go ahead with one song to see how it would turn out and everything went well.
Stewart doesn't play any instruments but with a strong musical ear is able to convey his ideas and melodies, which I interpreted into the subsequent recordings whichn you cann hear on then player on this page.
Initially I sang lead along with Kirsty Mckinna, sharing vocal duties on the songs.
In 2019, after I had been working with vocalist Billy Thomson we decided he was a better fit for the lead vocals on the project.
Some of the songs were a bit tricky because of the key I had been singing in and he also replaced some of Kirsty's vocals in a lower key.
We also added some new songs to the album and since then we have also made two videso with Billy which you can view below. We plan to add new videos to the collection in the future.
The album is now available on Bandcamp, a collection of 20 songs showcasing Stewarts extensive songwriting range across various styles including, Pop. Pop Rock, Rock, Ballads and Country.

“I enjoyed working with Iain at Offbeat on the songs for the movie and the album. I first worked with him on a song called 'It Cuts Both Ways', a song I wrote with Sandy Wright back in the 80s at Sonic Studios. We connected again years later on this project at Offbeat studios, by the way, the highest studio in the world !"
